Discover Panama through Chiriqui tours
One of the most beautiful areas of Panama is without a doubt the beautiful province of Chiriqui. Located on the Pacific shore, bordering Costa Rica, Chiriqui contains tall mountains, long rivers, and fertile valleys, as well as commercial cities and even white sand beaches. Our carefully-selected partner in this region facilitate Chiriqui Tours, and are ready to help you plan your dream holiday. Outdoor activities are plentiful in both Chiriqui’s spectacular highland rainforests and its productive agricultural and cattle-ranching lands. It is the perfect place to practice hiking, biking, horseback riding, canopy, rafting, wildlife activities, birdwatching, snorkelling and diving. There are also many charming towns to discover as you travel through the area. Cultural richness, friendly people, and unique experiences await!
Visit the charming towns of Chiriqui
While visiting Chiriqui, you must visit Boquete, a beautiful town in the highlands formed by ancient volcanic activity. Boquete was once a Swiss Farm Colony, as you will notice from the many homes and buildings that feature European architecture. Boquete is well-known for its pleasant weather, fresh climate and flower gardens. You can visit specialised farms that grow and sell local products like coffee, honey, vegetables, and citrus fruits that flourish in the area’s rich soil. Boquete is the center of Panama’s coffee industry, and if you are a coffee lover, you may want to plan your trip for January. During this month the town’s biggest annual event, “The Flowers and Coffee Fair”, takes place.
For the more adventurous traveller, Boquete and the rivers of Chiriqui and Chiriqui Viejo are a rafting destination. There are also many hiking, trekking and birdwatching opportunities. Many of the hiking trails around Boquete are part of the neighbouring Volcán Barú National Park. This protected area harbours a great biological variety of unique species who live in its tropical rainforests. The most famous trail within the park is called “Los Quetzales”. It guides you from Cerro Punta down to Boquete, crisscrossing Río Caldera. The trail is named after the Quetzal bird, which you can see while you are hiking through the forest. If nature sightings are the aim of your travels, include a side trip to the private cloud forest reserve of Mount Totumas. Within the reserve, you’ll be enveloped by the sounds of nature.
Discover the volcanic beauty of Volcan and the mountains
Volcán lies on the western hillside of Volcan Barú, the only volcano in Panama and the highest point of the country. Like Chiriqui, the town of Volcan is an agricultural and cattle farming area. Fruits and flowers are grown here in abundance. The town’s proximity to both Volcan Barú National Park and The Friendship National Park makes it a perfect resting point for hiking adventures. The Friendship National Park is a refuge for a great number of endangered flora and fauna species. It is also considered the first Bi-National Biosphere Reserve, since it is located between Panama and Costa Rica.
Though the mountains of Chiriqui are one of its greatest highlights, they aren’t the only reason to visit the area… There are spectacular white-sanded beaches located in the Gulf of Chiriqui National Marine Park, surrounded by palms and rainforest vegetation. From these beaches, you can practice snorkelling and diving, while enjoying the sun and fresh air. Travellers can also take advantage of amazing underwater wildlife and whale watching from May to October.
